Designed by Staffan Tollgård and Filippo Castellani for Gallotti & Radice, the SENSEI collection bridges Italian, Scandinavian and Japanese design cultures drawing a red thread between rigour, versatility and functionalism.
An honorific term – Sensei – literally translates to ‘one who comes before’: a respectful form of address that acknowledges the mastery of an art form, skill or discipline.
The SENSEI bench is both sculptural and versatile. Designed to have the same frame and dimension as the wide bridges in the SENSEI series, it can be used to create compositions in a coffee table setting or be used independently. It is offered in a fully upholstered version, or with the choice of a glass, wood or stone shelf next to the cushion.
“The SENSEI bench shows a softer side of this rigorously minimal family, and I like this versatility,” says Staffan Tollgård. “My inner Swedish functionalist craves the clean lines that SENSEI provides, but my body is thankful for the softness of the carefully crafted leather cushion.”
